NATASHA MAJOR

Natasha Major has three works on display, two of which are photographs from an ongoing series titled Shapeshifters. This work is made of various instances of visual trickery, illusive surfaces and abstract forms that occur in the world, many resulting from interactions between nature and humanity. Utilizing the conventions of light, shadows, reflections, and motion in photography, Shapeshifters is both playful and urgent in its conviction that things are not always as they seem. Major’s third work, Four Little Windows, is both photographic and sculptural. Each little window features a unique interior and exterior, and acts as entry to an alternate reality or an object of imagination.

Natasha Major has been honing her skills as a film photographer for 7+ years. Major uses photography to weave her own experiences into narratives and abstractions as a means of reconciling the space between inner and outer life. She received her undergraduate education in Digital Cinema at DePaul University in Chicago, where she went on to work in the Film Industry as a lighting technician for five years. In the Fall of 2020 she relocated to Somerville, MA, and is currently a second-year MFA candidate at Lesley University’s College of Art and Design in the Photography and Integrated Media program.
