ARMANDO BAHENA

Hostage of Feelings is a multi-layered story about three influential events during mid-October of 2021. Armando Bahena considers family a critical factor in his life, but getting informed about three family members (Dad, brother, and his dog Maxx) attending surgeries during the same week was not easy to comprehend. Playing soccer since he was three years old gave him a killer instinct, a positive attitude, and the fear of losing. Losing his final season, with 17 losses and 0 wins after all his prior accomplishments, was the worse pain. Lastly, the end of a three-year relationship with the one he thought would be his wife. This project is a complex layering of stories of three events during the same week of October causing mental instability.

Hostage of Feelings is a multi-media installation that involves physical and digital aspects. It all started with a series of typography illustrations as Phase One. Phases that Bahena went through during the unpredictable events of October. Phase One work is an understanding of his thoughts during the circumstances. Art is a strong candidate for sharing thoughts and ideas. The hardest part is to recognize that there is a problem, but slowly learning and building yourself up again is what matters.

Armando Bahena is a Mexican visual artist. Most of his artwork encircles graphic design, photography, printmaking, film, and installation elements. Bahena is an emerging artist living in Boston, MA. He has been a graphic designer and photographer for over seven years. His artistic style focus on visual identity, marketing, publication, motion and environmental design. His current work explores the theme of self-awareness. Bahena is currently a first-year MFA candidate at Lesley University’s College of Art and Design in the Photography and Integrated Media program.
